Momentum Doctorandus – Be each other’s momentum!
On March 19th, 2011, a small group gathered for discussing the idea of launching an organization. The Transcarpathian Hungarian PhD students and PhD candidates who were present at the event were the representatives of ELTE, Corvinus, Pázmány Péter Catholic Universities, University of Pannonia, Universities of Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs, National Universities of Kyiv, Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia. The young researchers who took part in the meeting were very manifold not only due to their geography but also due to their scientific areas: historians, sociologists, linguists, literature scholars, physicists, mathematicians, biologists and geographers.
With this diversity the initiators wanted to express their intention to create a group open for all Transcarpathian Hungarian young researchers who study in doctoral programmes either in Ukraine or in Hungary.
In Momentum Doctorandus we believe that with the establishment of an organisation which unites the PhD students who pursue their studies in Hungary and in Ukraine we can get one step closer to overcoming the isolation and segregation of the Transcarpathian scientific community.
The main aims of the organisation are: to create and maintain a database of PhD students, to encourage bonds among them, to ensure professional information flow for the members of the organisation (conference, publication, scholarship opportunities) and to organise professional programmes that help the PhD students to get their degrees and to help their integration into the Ukrainian and Hungarian scientific communities.
At the first meeting dealing with the arrangement and the profile of the organisation the PhD students expressed their ideas and thoughts, according to them its scope was extended with to the legal assistance as well.
At the meeting three members were entrusted with chairmanship role in launching and running the organisation. Viktória Ferenc was elected to the president post, Krisztina Kudlotyák to the economy vice-president and Magdolna Séra to the professional vice-president post. In October of 2011 Katalin Kovály took over the economy vice-president`s post. In May of 2011 two scientific sections were created within the organisation, which were led by their respective coordinators.
At the meeting held on June 29th of 2013, Kovály Katalin was elected as a new chairman of the organisation. For the two vice-president positions Séra Magdolna and Kolozsvári István were appointed. Molnár Anita became the coordinator of Human Science section and Hadnagy István – the coordinator of Natural Science section. Nagy Enikő will fulfill the duties of the organization secretary.
Although the organisation`s target group is small in number and really diverse geographically, the Internet helps MD members keeping quite intense contact with each other and even with the PhD students of other regions in the Carpathians-basin. With care about cooperation the representatives of other PhD organisations (whose activity is supporting the gifted and organisation of professional programmes) were also invited to the first meeting. Therefore, the following guests took part in the meeting: Gréta Czene and Balázs Joó from the Association of Hungarian Ph.D. and DLA Students (Hungary), Tünde Morvai from TéKa (Association of Hungarian Doctorate Students in Slovakia), Tünde Székely from RODOSZ (Association of Hungarian Ph.D. Students and Young Researchers from Romania), Emőke Kötél from the Research Organisation Office of Márton Áron Szakkollégium, Ildikó Orosz from the Génius Talent Support Foundation and Sándor Seremet from Transcarpathian Hungarian Students’ and Young Researchers’ Association (KMDFKSz). Their dedication to Momentum Doctorandus had been proved by many common projects since then.
The choice of our name was motivated by the idea that we can be each other`s momentum, as well as to be the momentum of the whole community.
